Oh no, only back 2 May

I'm only going to return to my blog 2 May but it will be worth the wait. I'm off on an adventure, it's a dream come true. And when I get back I'm going to be home getting my home winter-proof. It's been wonderful to share my ordinary journey with you and I hope you'll be back.

Fighting Viking

The latest PrettyUgly.

New, improved paper flowers

Now being made up with 7 petals. Original ones I made only had 5 petals (see bottom corner, right).

First Round Selections

I entered the Nikon Photo Contest 2012-2013. One image into the single shot category, and 3 photos into the photo story category. The first round of judging is over, resulting in 97 974 photos, and both my entries made it. Yipee! Yay!

Interesting, educational

Went to the Body Worlds exhibit on Sunday – was great. Some queazy bits for me, but some a big wow. The veins around the heart and the veins in the arm/hand display are works of art.
They don't let you take any pictures so I scanned in their brochure (and deleted the copy). © Body Worlds

Silver linings

Page 11: When we arrive, I take a seat in the waiting room as Mom fills out some more paperwork. By now, ten trees must have been cut down just to document my mental health...

Page 51: ...but I do not say anything about that, because I am practicing being kind instead of right...

Page 136: It would be a bad idea to put my drunk mother in bed with my sulking father...

Page 153: This next song is familiar – surprisingly gentle, like a kitten walking through high grass –  and it seems so unlike Jake to create something this beautiful.

Storytelling

Page 54: And she will fling the radio to the wall and a fierce red rage will run through her at how it was all packaged and sanitized and made to fit into so few words, all those bodies.

Page 67: But who can tell? Perhaps nothing would have been different even if we had won.

Page 96: She could not tell his age from his face; it was pleasant but unformed, as though God, having created him, had slapped him flat against a wall and smeared his features all over his face.

Page 187: You remember the heat of that summer clearly, even now, eighteen years later – the way Grandmama's yard felt moistly warm, a yard with so many trees that the telephone wire was tangled in leaves and different branches touched one another and sometimes mangoes appeared on cashew trees and guavas on mango trees.

Tim Morris pot

More than 30 years ago, yes, more than 30 years ago a friend took me to visit Tim Morris at his studio. We each left there with a pot he gave us as a gift. Amazing!
Alas, I broke the lid years ago. And now I'm using it for my water plants. Pretty.

Waves of pink and yellow

I saw a decoration on the internet and tried to copy it. I think I did okay! I love the colours and shapes.

Easter lunch

Yum! Prawn and avo salad. Lamb (in balsamic, with rosemary and garlic), creamy mashed potato, chickpeas and spinach, mushroom sauce, green beans. Buttermilk and apple pudding, served with cream and/or custard. Cranberry biscuits.

My heart is so full

The girls gave me these flowers for Easter. M'wah! Thank you, my angels.
