Some pics left over from being out and about in September. One - found these during a tidy up. Remember when these were all the rage? I made 72 for a friends wedding. The first 12 were fun, the rest were work ;-) Two - herbs from the garden for the salad. Three - someone's discarded bike. Four - for those that don't enjoy cooking ;-) Five - back to my favourite store. Six - looks like a great environment to work in.

Lunch hour concert
I've always wanted to go to a lunch hour concert, but I'm too far away to get there and back in my lunch hour. So when I had the day off I indulged myself, eyes closed, just listening, and letting the music soothe the soul ;-) It was lovely!
David Brown Fine Art Printmaking Exhibition
No photographs were allowed. Sigh!
There were some beautiful pieces though, would have been great to share them with you. Alas! Just go and see it, it's worth it.

How to eat a radish
I get so frustrated when I see radishes only used as 4 thin slices in a salad. At home my father used to grow them. In the late afternoon he would prepare them so we could eat them that evening.
So either use the 'twirly-whirly' cutter or if you don't have one cut the radish in slices but not all the way through. Then sprinkle a generous amount of salt over it. Let it sweat. This removes the bite without destroying the peppery flavour of the radish. Can't stop eating until they are all finished, delicious.

Back in time
About 8 years ago Kay's daughter had her birthday party at Boswell Wilkie Circus. The birthday girl gets to be the star of the show, and all her friends are the support acts. Family and friends make up the audience. It's a great day. I remember the coffee shop made delicious toasted sandwiches, so I stop off there on Saturday morning and sat under the big trees. Lovely.

Ye old garden furniture
The other day someone had posted a pic on Facebook and asked if anyone remember this garden furniture. My friend, I still have this garden furniture. When Zani left for London 19 years ago and was giving away her things I took her garden furniture and a gnome (more about him later).

'n lap of twee
'n lap of twee = a (piece of) cloth or two.
Bought all these off cuts at the BB sale. Won't be able to afford them otherwise. Going to use them to recover my dining room chair seats. So nothing will match, much like my crockery set ;-)

The history of things
I'm not really a hoarder but there are some things that I'm so glad I have kept.
My father made these chairs, 4 of them, in the 1960's. They are the most comfortable seats. I only have them because my brother doesn't have the space for them, but thanks bro.
The little paraffin stove is also from our childhood. My mother would put it in the bathroom on winter evenings to keep the room warm during our bath. But wait, it gets better. She would put a saucepan on the top with milk and when the milk was heated we would have a glass of warm milk while in the bath. Bliss.
The painting is from the 'old country' and always hung in the dining room at home. It hangs in my 'library'.

1 September - Spring day
A get-together. A pot of flowers for each guest to take home.
Baking up a storm. Simple lunch - boerewors rolls, prego rolls, hamburgers, served with mushrooms, tomatoes, caramelised onions and a selection of sauces. DIY fruit salad for dessert. Yum.

A short walk in the park
We wanted to do a walk around the dam but the cold wind made it impossible to enjoy.
So it was a short walk and then home to a fire and and a glass of wine.

Salvation Army Children's Home fete
Well, I got there too late, the tables were bare. I wanted to be there early but I had a client mid-morning so... Too late, she cried, too late! Ag nee man. I did buy the cutest soft toy for ZAR7 though. And had some curry and rice.
